Perhaps you're already a writer or you're simply playing with the idea of writing a novel because after all, you've read countless novels and it just seems like an easy task to come up with a story and flesh it out for the masses to consume. Except, here's the thing: It's not as easy as you think. It's rare for a writer to produce an amazing novel in just a single draft. It just doesn't work like that for us regular folk.

In this post, I'm going to give you some tips on how to write a novel—not because you can't find them anywhere else on the web, but because there's LOTS of information out there. This simply breaks it down for you instead of overloading your brain. Let's get started:

Writing is not the only working from home gig you can score. If you are not interested in freelance writing, then perhaps customer service or sales is something you'd like to check out.

Many corporations moved from brick and mortar call centers to telecommuting across the world. It's simultaneously beneficial for parents and companies. It cuts down on overhead expenses, plus allows agents more flexibility because many of them give you the opportunity to choose a schedule that fits your needs.

Before you dive in, carefully research the company and position. Read through the pros and cons to help you decide whether this is a position you wish to pursue. When in doubt, ask around. Join a few of the community boards. The boards are t...

Instagram's a great place to interact with others and reach an audience outside of the people you already know—until it's not.

What's a Shadowban?

If you're scratching your head, here you go: A shadowban is when, even though you're using hashtags, your post doesn't reach anyone except your followers. Your list of followers begins to decline and your posts get no love. You're left frustrated and screaming at the void because you can't seem to figure out where you went wrong. I mean, after all, you follow the rules like a well-behaved Instagrammer should, right?  And, it's not like Instagram contacts you with a shadowban notification, "Hey dude, you're shadowbanned!" Nope, nada. (Really, thanks for that Instagram!)

Still lost? Listen, here'...

There's no way around it. If you're going to work at home, you should consider WHERE you will work inside the premises of your humble abode. Where should you work and why does it matter? You're a writer, so technically you can work anywhere you prefer. However, having an exclusive workspace at home benefits you in more ways than one. Check it out:

1. It's good for the psyche. If you think about it, when you work where you play, you don't get much accomplished. It's difficult to break out of that relaxed mode and shift gears. If you draw a boundary by having a distinct space for work, then it makes it easier to get to down to business. You are less likely to be distracted by the television or the dirty dishes if you are in...

I have been working from home off and on for more than 14 years, writing professionally for about nine. Occasionally, someone wants to know what I do and how I do it. I try to keep it simple by telling them I'm a writer who works at home creating marketing content for a variety of businesses.

If you no longer have a job and are looking elsewhere, then this might be an option for you. Maybe you're a parent who wants to be home with your children or simply want to get out of your current job situation.

Some things I've been asked:

  • What is it that I do for work? Mainly, I produce original content for my clients' websites or in their books, sales pages, copy, press releases, tutorials, etc. I help clients with their social media strategy,...

So, you're thinking about becoming a writer? There are some things to consider before you go down that path. Everyone has a story that will sell oodles of books and make them hard cash IF they can get it out of their head and onto paper.

Obviously, for the majority of the population, this is just a pipe dream. Why? Because as gratifying as writing is, it's still a lot of work. If you're editing your own material—that's even more laborious. You really have to take into consideration all of the things that involve writing before making that leap.

A Few Things to Think About

Why do you want to write? Before you start off on your quest to become a writer, can you answer this question? Do you like writing? Do you think it will...
